Stump Grinding
A cutting wheel takes the stump down below grade — usually 6 to 12 inches, deeper if you are planting. The root plate stays in the ground and rots out over the next few years. This is the right answer for most lawns.
Full Stump Removal
The stump and the main root plate come out of the ground entirely. You need this when something is going in the hole — a footing, a post, a pool, a line. It leaves a real excavation that has to be backfilled.

If you are putting grass back, grinding. If you are building on it, removal. Tell us what the ground is for and we will quote the one that actually fits.
What It Leaves
Grinding produces a pile of chips. We can rake them into the hole and crown it, haul them away, or leave them for your own beds. Say which when you book.

Lake Lots And Slopes
The Lake Norman side of the county is full of sloped lots where a grinder has to be walked in rather than driven. Our smaller machines handle ground a truck-mounted unit cannot reach without tearing up the yard getting there.
Old Hardwood Stumps
Oak and hickory stumps three and four feet across are common on the older places out this way. They take longer and they dull teeth, and a quote that ignores the diameter is a quote that gets revised on the day. Ours does not.
Septic, Irrigation And Lines
A lot of this area is on septic. We ask about tank and field location before the wheel turns, and about irrigation and invisible fence while we are at it.

How deep do you grind?
Six to twelve inches below grade as standard. Deeper if you are replanting in the same spot — tell us and we will go further.
Will the grass grow back?
Yes, once the hole is backfilled with soil rather than chips. Chips alone tie up nitrogen and the patch stays thin. We will crown it with soil if you ask.
Do you have to get a truck into the yard?
Not always. Smaller machines reach places a truck cannot, which matters on the sloped and lakefront lots out here.
Can you take the whole root system?
For a real excavation, yes — that is full removal rather than grinding, and it is quoted differently. See stump grinding for the standard service.
